Susan at home on Hospice Care

Over the weekend, our family started talking about bringing Susan home for her remaining days. Everyone seemed to agree including Susan. The trips to the hospital and coordination of care sitting became a little draining emotionally and physically. Susan came home Monday evening! Hospice has taken over with all her meds and equipment at home. She has enjoyed the familiarity and closeness to kids and the pets. She will remain on the same dose of morphine and ativan medicines as she was in the hospital. Susan continues with long naps and periods of time when she eats and talks a bit. This morning she ordered up a cheese omelet, pancakes and juice for breakfast. She nibbled on it and ate some of it. She still has a desire for food. So now that we are at home, we still need to request no visitors at home. Sorry but it is just too hard to determine when her awake times are and how much energy she has to communicate. Thank you. And thank you all for your prayers that have sustained us. It has been through the grace of God that keeps us going. You all are such a blessing to us in these tough times. God Bless!

Doug,

We have nothing but good to say about our experiences with Hospice at KMC! What a blessing for the CDA area! We're praying for all of you--- but extra for you, Doug. We are confident that God is and will continue to pick you up and carry you---giving you strength when you feel weak. We have an awesome God!! What a blessing for Susan to be home, surrounded by so much love. Good decision! Gary & Gayle

Dear Susan,
How wonderful that you can be at home at this time spending these precious moments with your family. The other day I had a surprise visit from two grandchildren of friends and I honestly thought, "What would Susan do to entertain these two girls?" So I pulled out a few games and we played away and we all really enjoyed it. So, that has been one of many ways in which you have inspired me, Susan. We are thinking of you lots and send our love and thanks!!
Lots of love, Judy and Patrick

Dear Doug and Susan; So many memories, raising our kids together...soccer, AWANA, pinewood derby, boating on Lake CDA, home-schooling, CBC body life, skiing together, Silverwood together, card nights and, of course, Suzanne's special friendship with Susan.

When I think of you as a couple I think of your legacy and testimony, as a God honoring family. I think of the fine young people you brought into this world and how the world is a better place for the contributions of their lives. I think of your tireless work in striving to teach them and train them to be all that God has intended for them. I think of how well you have always done leveraging your time, your talents and your resources to achieve a God-honoring result. I think of your upbeat and encouraging attitude, and how your grace and sincerity was always grounded in your love and faith in the Lord. I think of Susan's boundless energy and her joie d'vivre (joy of life). We always felt uplifted and encouraged when we were with Susan and you. But your most important legacy as a couple will always be your family. And although Susan will be called home before that work is finished, I am confident of God's timing, and in His faithfulness to equip you to see that work through to completion.

Notwithstanding her pain and physical limitations at this point, Susan is finishing so well and so strong and we all know that very soon she will be comforted by our Lord, who will tell her "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord". We have loved and admired you and your family for all the years we have known you and lived among you. And we look forward to being reunited together one day soon, perfectly healed and whole and Holy, just as God intended from before the foundation of the world.

We will continue to hold all of your family up in prayer as Susan makes her final push for the finish line, for she has fought the good fight, she has finished the race and she has kept the faith. And we know there is laid up for her the crown of righteousness, which the LORD the righteous judge will give to her on that day, and not only to her, but also to all who have loved His appearing. God's sweetest blessing be upon you all.

Brian & Suzanne
