Grace is Sufficient

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12: "There was given me a thorn in my flesh... to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My Grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." That is certainly a feeling these days. We want to delight in our circumstance right now. Not dwell on it and wonder why. By God's grace in our weaknesses, we are made strong and strengthened each day. Susan is very comfortable at home. It was a good move back home. She has continued on the same morphine dose as at the hospital and she has been eating quite a bit. She even has these spurts of energy in the evenings that sometimes causes us to even think she is getting better. But it is all in God's timing. We take each day for what it is, looking to the day she is carried home to heaven. She smiles a lot at the familiar things and even imparts some motherly advice to the kids. Still, she amazes us. Here is a picture back in the summer of 1982 just before Nathan was born in Newport Rhode Island during Officer Candidate School. Boy did we look young.

Doug & Susan,
I, too, marvel at the Word of God and how perfect and rich it is in all situations. The Holy Spirit is so good to bring to our minds and hearts just what we need for the particular moment.........and what comfort and strength and hope it brings! God is soooooo good!
I'm driving to Seattle in the morning to fly out Sat. a.m. with my aunt to NYC for a week....am excited, but not liking this snow right now, but because Susan loves it...it's okay :-)
"He whose mind is stayed on Thee will be kept in perfect peace, because he trusts in Thee" (my paraphase of Is 26.3) His peace is beyond description!!!
My love and prayers continue for all of you...Jackie Eborall

Dear Susan & Doug,
We were blessed to meet you and spend time with you both in Newport RI – what a beautiful sunny day that was when we all got to tour the Tall Ships! I remember taking that picture. We were so eager to get out and explore this interesting new area we had been sent to – we sure had a lot of fun adventures. We were all so young as we were beginning our newly married lives, wondering what God had planned for us. Nathan was such as sweet baby - he even waited for his dad to graduate Officer Candidate School before he made his appearance a week afterwards! We are so glad you are able to be at home, Susan; we are thinking of you all daily and holding you in our prayers. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us all. May The Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
With much love, Carol & Rich O’Hara

This picture is much the way I remember you guys... although I met you after Nathan was born, so Susan was skinnier. :-)

Your family is in my thoughts during pretty much every waking moment lately... those thoughts become prayers... a gentle, neverending wave of prayer joining the many other prayers coming your way.

Your family has inspired so many of us, as we read this blog and see the faith and love that have been the hallmarks of this journey, and of your whole life together. Thank you.

Life comes at you fast and you just have to live it the best you can. Susan has been doing that her whole life and in this picture, you can tell she was having lots of fun. You can tell where all the kids get their good looks from. Everyone is so beautiful in a different way. God blessed us with all that we have and share. Our family is so glad that God has his hand upon this loving and caring family. God bless you all.

Sincerly, Anonymous

Dear Precious Susan,
There are not many words that describe what your example has meant to me; and if there were it seems most of them have already been said.
My flesh cries out in anguish for you and your family; but then as I read this blog and remember your countenance whenever I was blessed to spend time with you I am reminded that, as wonderfull and gracious and strong as you are that your stregnth truely does come from the Lord.
I hope and pray that I will learn more each day to trust him with each aspect of this life. Thank you for your faithfull example. Watching you has taught me that unconditional surrender to God's will is not weakness, it is glorious. Thru you, many have seen the goodness and faithfullness of a loving God in a crazy world. What rejoicing there is in heaven over the Vestch Family Legacy. I am glad to know you.

With much love,
Cyndi Draper
