A BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY

LUKE PAUL VETSCH was born tonight, December 27th, at 8:01 pm. He weighed in at 9 lbs 7oz and 21 inches tall. He looks just like Nathan when he was born and almost the same weight. Both Michelle and Luke are doing well. Michelle looks awesome for just going through a birth and Luke is most handsome. I am a very proud Grandpa. Here is a picture of Luke about an hour after birth.

Glory to God in the Highest

"Gloria in excel sis Deo" Merry Christmas to everyone. It's good to say that, amongst all the political correctness going on around us. We are having a great time together as a family this Christmas. My brother "Uncle Johnny" flew in from Houston last Friday night through Seattle without any weather hiccups. It is good to have him here. He usually comes for Christmas. Leah drove over from Bend, OR on Saturday and has been organizing stocking stuffers for me this year. She will be here for two weeks. She is already working at Ski Shack to keep busy. On Sunday, the kids and I celebrated what would have been Susan and my 29th Wedding Anniversary. We had grilled steaks and fresh salmon steaks which were so so good. My kids are the best and each one of them portrays a different characteristic of Susan which I treasure and hold on to. We all miss Susan so much especially on these anniversaries and holidays. For the anniversary, Hannah gave me a multiple picture framing of Cannon Beach pictures from this past summer. Here is a sampling of those pictures. It was only my girls with me this time at Cannon Beach. My girls are so beautiful.

Have a Merry Christmas!! Enjoy family and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ together. Keep it safe for those experiencing snow and ice.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Having a great time in Bend Oregon at Leah's new house. We have had nice weather with temps into the mid 50's. But it has been changing with rain/snow today. We travel back to Coeur d'Alene on Saturday. So pray for safe travels. We are moving Jason back home from his stay with Leah over the last three months. He will be going to North Idaho College this coming semester. It will be good to have him home. So now I will have six kids at home to keep me in line and to help out at home. Here are some pictures of the surrounding area of Bend and of the family.

Count it all Joy!

Hey everyone, Fall is and has been upon us. We have always loved the Fall and the transformation from the growing season to the dormant season. It has definitely been a while since I talked with you and I don't even have a good excuse! I will catch everyone up with what has been going on in the past month. I know several people have called to check in with us and ask how everyone is doing. We are all doing fine. God has been taking good care of us and putting dear people in our lives to make sure we are on the right path. I was just going through my bible and found several pieces of paper that had some questions on them. It was a questionnaire that Susan and I answered in our church small group that was to help everyone else know who we are. Several questions stood out. First question: What do you collect? Susan's answer was "CHILDREN". That speaks for itself. She was so funny. My answer was "Everything that my wife doesn't get rid of". She was always throwing things away (or taking them to Goodwill), so I therefore started collecting the things that I figured I might need one day. Sound familiar, guys? So the second question: What one or two words describe yourself? Susan's answer was "JOY, Strong". Susan was a Joyful person and very strong (physically, spiritually, emotionally). This excerpt from "You gotta keep Dancin" (Susan's favorite book): "Pain is inevitable, but misery is optional. We cannot avoid pain, but we can avoid joy. God has given us such immense freedom that he will allow us to be as miserable as we want to be. Joy is a choice." Not to be confused with happiness which is circumstantial. Where happiness is a feeling, joy is an attitude. Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." John 15:11 The joy of Jesus was doing that which the Father sent Him to do, self-surrender and self-sacrifice. Having the right relationship with God means that same joy remains in us and it can be full if we choose. It is so evident that Susan chose JOY even in the battle.
Here we are at Carver Farms to get pumpkins and cornstalks. Glad we went when we did. The weather got bitter cold several days after this (down to mid teens) and the pumpkin crop was damaged, pumpkins got rotten on the vine. The above picture is Mary, Kayla, Laura, Hannah, Jake and Sarah. And me, I'm the photographer.
Carver's has a hay wagon to take you out to the fields to collect the pumpkins. This is the picture going out. We collected about 70 lbs of pumpkins. And a car top full of cornstalks to decorate the front of the house.
My sister Jane and the kids' cousin Abby came over from Montana via Amtrak to visit in mid October. Here is Abby and Laura making birthday cake. The reason that 'Gramma' Jane and Abby came over, was for Abby's birthday. So we celebrated with a cake that the girls made. Abby and Laura had such fun together.
We also went to Silverwood Theme Park where we all were able to ride some roller coasters and log rides, etc. Here is Abby and Laura in front of "After Shock" the new roller coaster. Nathan and I were the only ones that went on this incredibly exhilarating ride.
And here are the four girls, Kayla, Laura, Abby and Mary on the Log Ride. The weather was still pretty nice then, so the water was not too cold. We had such a great time.
And we collected apples again this year to go to our Apple Press up in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho. We collected enough apples to get 59 gallons of apple cider. Here is the start of the process. Dump the apples into the conveyor belt that takes them into the building to be washed, chopped and pressed. What a process. Fun to watch.
And here is the bottling phase. This is where the kids get involved. The vat of apple juice is above this pouring station. Then into the bottles. And the end product was pretty tasty. And there were so many apples this year in the neighborhood that we easily could have made 150 gallons. But freezer space is limited.
Here is a picture of some horses on this ranch where the Apple Press is. What a beautiful place to behold. Even this picture does not capture the beauty of the snow covered mountains with the Tamarack trees turning yellow against the evergreens.
More later...... with prayer requests and praises.

Time to Celebrate!!

Hi all,
Made it back from Portland on Sunday evening after running the Portland Marathon. Nathan, Leah and I ran the 26.2 miles in nice cool Portland weather. It was a great marathon, full of cheering crowds, bands and food afterwards. Nathan did fantastic with a 3hr 40min time, 3hr 55min for me and 3hr 56min for Leah. We had a great weekend together, just hanging out together and checking out Portland. Here is a picture of us three afterwards in the hotel.
We also celebrated Jakes birthday and Hannah passing the Idaho State Nursing board. Had a great time together. Jake gives us a fall birthday to celebrate which we haven't had before. And we are so proud of Hannah passing her board. Her work has been exciting for her. Lots of kids coming in these days getting the flu and wanting help.

From Beaches to Barns to Books

"He who believes in Me....out of his heart will flow rivers of living water" John 7:38
Hello ALL,
It has been a month since Cannon Beach and I haven't been faithful in my blogging. Sorry about that. It seems like it went so quickly. So I am going to put a lot on here to catch up. But first, the river. In the picture of a river, the river only knows its source. It never knows where it will end up. A river comes up against obstacles and may be blocked, re-routed, slowed down for a while, BUT it continues to flow, where??, it doesn't know. We too are like that river. And too, if we know God, we know our source. And if we focus on our source, God will take us through our obstacles, around them or even remove them. We as a family try and focus on our one true source. We then reach our potential of being a flowing living river of water for Him.
In the last blog entry, we were at Cannon Beach and we had worked on the Memorial benches to Susan. Four teak wood benches. They turned out beautiful. We bought some plaques to fasten onto the benches in tribute to Susan. They too captured the beauty of Susan in description of who she is. "Loyal Friend", "Beautiful Wife", Faithful Servant" and "Loving Mother". Here are pictures of the benches and the kids. If you are ever over in the Cannon Beach area, stop by and see the benches on the porch of the Pacific View Lodge at the Cannon Beach Conference Center.

The week after we got back from Cannon Beach, we then shifted gears and went right into the County Fair and 4H. Mary and Laura did the Sheep livestock project. Mary, Laura and Kayla did the pet rabbit project as well. Mary and Laura did an exceptional job in raising quality animals and well trained sheep too. Mary finished with Reserve Champion in Fitting and Showing of her lamb. Laura made it to the finals in both quality and Fitting & Showing. They really enjoy the sheep project and it showed. Here are some pictures of both Mary and Laura.

Here is Mary getting top showman for her Intermediate Class. She then went on to get Reserve Champion. Mary is turning into a pretty young lady. She just got her braces off, after about a year and a half.

And here is Laura showing her lamb. She too is growing up fast. She has done well in her 4-H career.

And the girls all did pet rabbit. But the highlight to this years rabbit showing was my dear Kayla. This was her first year in 4-H and she happened to take third place in the Junior Class for Fitting and Showing. Her rabbit cooperated for her which can be a huge part of showing rabbit. Kayla put the rabbit on the table to show her rabbit and the rabbit pretty much stayed right where she put it, didn't move much so Kayla was not distracted. Here is a picture of her with her ribbon and rabbit.

Two weeks after the fair, school started. The girls were so excited about starting school. They wanted to go shopping way early to get all of their supplies. It just seemed too early but I was glad to be done with it once the rush was on. But they are plugged in. Mary is on the Canfield Cougar Volleyball A-1 team. She really likes volleyball. Laura is in band with her violin this year at Canfield Middle School with Mary. She is continuing with violin again this year. And Kayla is at Dalton Elementary, alone since Laura moved on to sixth grade at Canfield. She has signed up for Road Crew which is a singing group. Mary and Laura ride the bus to school and Kayla rides with our neighbor Kelly and her kids to Dalton school. So the routine is working. I thank God for working out the details. He seems to do that.
Prayer requests and Praises:
1) Sarah is at home and still in her Nanny position for Jeff. Sarah is a great help around the house. I am so thankful for her. She is looking for additional work to fill in the gap between the nanny work schedules. So pray for some part time work so she can keep busy. Also she is praying about college and a direction there. So join in praying for a calling for her.
2) Hannah has started her nursing job at Coeur d'Alene Pediatrics. It actually started earlier than anticipated. She started two weeks ago and she loves it. She works with some really nice people and she works around kids. Her state board is on September 28th. So she is studying for that. So a prayer request is for Hannah to stay focused on the task in front of her, read and answer the questions with confidence and to stay calmed down. It will be a big relief for her once this is done.
3) Jason moved down to Bend Oregon to live with Leah in the house she bought in Bend. It was a struggle for Jason at first because he didn't know anyone there in Bend. But he applied at Applebees Restaurant as a Host/server. He was one of 80 applicants and Jason got the job. He has also found a church down there and is going to the College group there at the church. Some of his coworkers go to that church also, so that makes it nice for friendships.
4) Nathan and Michelle are doing well. They showed me the baby room that they have been working on. The due date is still Jan 1st. Michelle is doing just fine. They do not know the sex of the baby and we all have our thoughts of whether it's going to be a boy or a girl. Pray for Michelle to stay healthy and strong. And the baby would develop and also stay healthy and strong.
5) Leah is finishing up with her Forest Service Fire fighting job for the summer. Then she will head back to Bend and be with Jason. That will be good to have them together. Leah will keep tabs on Jason. That will be good for Jason to be under Leah's watch and care for a while. She was canning peaches yesterday when I talked with her. She will be working part time for the school district down in Bend. Pray for a teaching position for her to open up.
6) Aaron is in his Senior year at high school. He is still plugged into youth ministries at church as well as Boarders for Christ. Pray for direction and after high school graduation opportunities for Aaron. He will probably move over to Bend and work up at Mount Bachelor and do something in the Bend area while contemplating college.

Everyday is new here in Cannon Beach!!

Hello All,
Well we are having an exceptional week here in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The weather has been gorgeous, the food too good, and the memories numerous. We are having a great time although there are only six of us here. The Bible teachings have been incredible and challenging. Ray Pritchard has been our teacher. His ministry website is Keep Believing which has links to some of his sermons and outreaches. It has been a blessing. Check it out.
Here are some more pictures of us at the beach. This one is a favorite of our family jummping for JOY at the beach. A moment in time when we are just plain silly in the air and having FUN.

Left to right, Kayla, Leah, Hannah, Doug, Laura, Sarah and Mary!!!

These past few months, a group of friends donated money for the Conference Center to buy four Teak wood benches as a Memorial to Susan. The benches are in front of the Pacific Beach Lodge on the Center campus. Here is a picture of us sanding down the benches in preparation of treating the benches with Teak oil. We had "In Loving Memory of SUSAN CAROL VETSCH" plaques made up as well to put on the finished benches.
They look super and I will have some pictures of the final product later this week. So when any of you go to the Cannon Beach Conference Center you can see and sit in these benches and reflect on Susan's life. More later.....

We are in Cannon Beach, OR

Hello family and friends,
We are currently in Cannon Beach, Oregon at the Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center. We are having a great time, only been here less than 24 hours. The trip over was about 8.5 hours and arrived no problems. Smaller group this year for us. Jason and Aaron were not able to make it because of work (it always gets in the way of our play time, doesn't it but required in order to play!!!). And Leah is still fighting fires in Eastern Oregon. But she did come over last night to spend two days with us. We all have fond memories of Cannon Beach. The concept of coming here all started with Susan's vision of a family get away (Thanks to a special group of friends back in 2004 who funded the first year's stay here at the Conference Center). It has been a special family time since. Here is a picture of my girls, with Haystack Rock in the background.

And before dinner last night we got a nice picture in front of the dining hall.

Also here are some pictures of activities over the past month.

My dear aunt Greta visited from Minnesota with her husband Harold. Aunt Greta is my dad's sister and we had a great visit. They were here for a wedding in Spokane. But they visited when we had the graduation party for Hannah. We have a praise too! Hannah got a job with Coeur d'Alene Pediatrics. She will start on October 1st so that allows Hannah to finish out the summer as my Nanny and then to visit a friend in California for a week in September. So it all works out for everyone. Jake is working really hard with road construction crews this summer. So that takes up his time at least for the summer. They are both doing very well.
At Hannah's graduation party that we had in our backyard. Thanks for all the family and friends that showed up to help celebrate Hannah's accomplishments.

We also worked at Creation Festival again this year. This is our ninth year at helping out. Here is Hannah, Mary and Laura on the grassy slope of the amphitheater overlooking the main stage and the Columbia River. A beautiful setting to give God all the glory for the blessings in our lives.

At Creation, Hannah's friend Anneliese came along and worked with the my girls in the Music Tent, selling music and posters and t-shirts. This is a picture of them working behind the cash registers.

Here is Nathan running in his first triathlon in Coeur d'Alene. He was pretty fast in the swim, really fast in the biking and running. He finished 15th overall out of about 500 people. Great Job, Nathan!! Along with that, Nathan, Leah and I are now signed up for the Portland Marathon on October 4th.

A couple weekends ago we went river rafting on the Spokane River just outside of Post Falls. The river was slow except for one set of rapids which made it all worth while. It was cool and fun. We are having a great summer!!!!!

Lastly, Sarah had her surgery to remove the breast Fibroadenomas (benign tumor that was found, I wrote about it on the last blog entry). All went well and the mass was sent off for further testing. We have not heard anything else on the results. But Sarah is doing well. Thanks for all the prayers.

"Be Anxious for nothing.....

But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the PEACE of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

Hi Family and Friends,
I can't believe how July flashed by us. Summer was going along at a nice snail pace for a while then it took off like a wild fire. And so much has been going on. We are continually looking to God for our strength for the day and the hope that a relationship with Him brings. He is Faithful. First, praises and prayer requests:

1) Sarah has been going through a lot. A couple of weeks ago, Sarah had a detectable lump in one breast checked out. This was very concerning for all of us because of the cancer history with dear Susan. It turned out to be a breast Fibroadenomas. They are benign (not cancerous) breast tumors that are made of glandular and fibrous breast tissue. Yesterday she had an appointment with a surgeon to get further advice on removal of the tumor. It was encouraging to her to find out that it is a very easy procedure with a very small incision. Procedure will take about 30 minutes and without anesthesia. Out patient care. So a praise that was benign and prayer that the removal will be clean and minimal scarring. Sarah also goes in today to have a staple removed from her left hand where her thumb tendon had to be reattached (result of last year's snowboarding accident). The staple aided in the mending of the tendon.

2) Nathan had a work related accident that could have been serious. He is a diesel mechanic, and part of one procedure is to use a chisel to seperate two parts of an engine assembly for removal. He then went to pickup the assembly and the chisel, without much notice, sprung out and into his face. It hit him just a half of an inch above the left eye. He had to have 10 stitches and he had a pretty good shiner for a couple of days. He returned back to work that night. What a tough guy!! Oh, yeah, he is a US Marine, I forgot. Praises that his sight in that eye was not affected and he is doing well. Also, Michelle is doing well with the pregnancy. They are both so excited as God continues to shape and form my first grandchild. Pray for Michelle as she is experiencing some ribcage pain, probably due to the development of the baby.

3) Praise for the closing of Leah's house in Bend Oregon. Leah bought a house in Bend for a good price. Jason plans on moving over this fall and living/working in Bend with Leah. Pray for Leah and her fire fighting work in Oregon. Not too many fires so far this season but that is changing I think. It has been hot and dry of late.

I will publish this for now, but will continue because I have more......

HOW GREAT THOU ART!!

"Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with splendor and majesty" Psalm 104:1

"Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed"
(first verse of this beautiful hymm)

Just the other night we had an incredible thunder storm. It made me think of this wonderful hymm "How Great Thou Art". His power was displayed in that storm the other night and also in the peacefulness of these quite, summer mornings... He has His hand in it all. Amen. This past week, His Faithfulness was displayed in a significant event. Hannah graduated from Nursing School!!!!! Hannah wrote down a thankyou and some thoughts that follow:

Hello Friends and Family, What a long road this past year has been for me. I have overcome more than I thought I could and have finished. Thank you most importantly to Jesus Christ, my Savior, for the miracles He orchestrated for me to be here today. He has blessed me with more then I could ask for and has given me the ability and opportunity to become a nurse. I want to thank the most important person in my life, my husband Jake. Thank you for loving me unconditionally and encouraging me. I love you! To my family- Dad, Nathan, Michelle, Leah, Sarah, Jason, Aaron, Mary, Laura and Kayla…Thank you! I am so blessed to have each one of you in my life. Sarah thank you for your text messages before and after test and your eagerness to see how each exam went. Dad thank you for being my prayer warrior and for keeping everyone updated through the blog and Leah thank you for the financial resources to finish my last semester. And to the Hoy’s, I am so grateful to have such a large new family. Each one of you has gotten me here today. To my extended family out there (my dear relatives, family, friends), thank you for all your prayers, texts, phone calls and love. I love you all! I honestly wouldn’t have made it through the program without the love and support of all my friends. To everyone who prayed weekly for me, for the endless cards and emails, and the phone calls to see how my last test went, thank you so much. In loving memory of my mom, who inspired me to become a nurse. She motivated me to achieve my dreams and I want to dedicate this to her.

The bible verse that has spoken to me the most is Deuteronomy 31:6: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you."

I am so proud of Hannah.

Here is a video of Hannah at her Pinning Ceremony at North Idaho College of Nursing.

Hannah with good friends, Anneliese and Lindsey!!

Hannah with good friend and nursemate, Bridget.
The Family around the Grad!

On the homefront, Dawson our lab, getting a bath after a close encounter with a SKUNK! WHEW. Also, Laura and Mary get back from summer camp this morning. I am sure they had a great time. We missed them very much. I will include a picture of their return. Also my Aunt Greta and husband Harold arrived last night for a couple of days. They are from Minnesota, ya! Good to see them. Greta is my dad's sister. More later. Have a God Blessed day.

We live by Faith

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by Faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me." Galatians 2:20

Hello all,
It is amazing how time goes by so quickly, especially when you are having fun. It has been a fun summer already. We are all doing well here. I chose this verse in Galatians because we are living by our Faith. A Faith based on our belief that Jesus is the Son of God and he we are all sinners and need Him in our life. As believers in Jesus, we are made new because Christ does live in us. People will ask me and the kids how we are doing and they will comment on "how do we do it". We are amazing they will say. But it is not us but God working through us. HE IS AMAZING!
The month of June went by quickly. Last I talked with you, I was going to run my Adventure Race through the woods at Farragut Park. I made it!!! It actually was a good time. A bit warm. I took first place in my age group (I have to tell you that there was just one guy, me, over the age of 50 doing the half marathon). But I did take 12th out of 30. Take that you youngsters. God was watching over me, because at about mile 12, I tripped on a rock, root, or something and went forward landing on my chest and temple. It was on soft ground and not on the rocky parts of the course. I got up and looked around to see if anyone was looking (no one in sight) and continued running. Little did I know that when I finished, I had dirt all over my face. The girls helped clean me up a little. Here is a picture after the race. My support Team!!!

Hannah is about to Graduate from her nursing school. July 9th is the ceremony at North Idaho College and picnic afterwards. She has been getting the highest scores on her tests, in the class. She has worked so hard and I am very proud of her. Susan would especially be proud of her since Hannah is following in Susan's nursing footsteps. Hannah now has taken over as my Nanny. Thanks to Dianne Shaw for the month of June as the girl's nanny. She did such a great job with them.
Celebrated Leah's birthday when she was home. She is back in Oregon fighting fires again this summer. And she bought the house in Bend, OR. So there will be some trips over to Bend in the near future. Planning Thanksgiving over in Bend this year. So continue to pray for Leah and finding a teaching job in the Bend area. She is never without work which is good.

Also, it was "Bring your child to work day" at the Navy Base where I work. Here is a picture of most of my girls that came to work with me. Sarah said that she had never been to work with me and Hannah insisted on going as well. In the background is the model submarine that I work on, Cutthroat.

Be praying for Jason as he goes off to Young Life Camp in Oregon. He will be working at the camp, in the kitchen and as a camp counselor with the youth. He is really blossoming in his faith and applying it to his everyday life and experiences. Aaron is doing very well at his job at Tomato Street. Making money, learning hard work and saving. Talk to you all later..... Blessings.

Found a Nanny!

Hello all,
Yes we have a nanny for the first half of the summer. Diane Shaw is Mary, Laura and Kayla's nanny. She came to me and said she would like to do it and to make extra money to go toward their daughter's wedding in the Fall. So it worked out for the both of us. This past week was her first week and it has gone very well. They have gone on hikes at tubs hill and playing games, etc but only after doing their chores. It was an answer to prayer. Also Hannah will be graduating from her nursing school on July 9th and will take over as nanny the following week. Her class will have a big BBQ after her graduation at the City Park. So we are really excited for Hannah. Thanks to all that have been praying for Hannah through her studies. She has done well down the stretch. Currently she is working at a convalescence home, sometime 12 hours a day. A couple of weeks ago Leah, Kayla and I went white water rafting on the Moyie River, North Idaho. Lots of fun and rapids. Here is a picture. Nice weather too. Great time.

Also this past weekend, I traveled over to Helena to see my sister Jane. Sarah and Kayla went along. We did the Governor's Cup road race on Saturday morning. It was cold and it snowed on us during the race. Very unique run given the snow. Sarah and I did the 10K (6.2 mi) run and then walked the 5K event with Jane and Kayla. Always a good time in Helena during this weekend. Made it back safely on Sunday noon.

Prayer/Praises:
1) Leah is back in Oregon ready to start fighting fires again. She is still looking at buying a home in Bend. She may be closing on one this weekend.
2) Nathan is doing his three week reserve duty down in Texas, outside Fort Worth. He is on the Number One Howitzer, and will be shooting live rounds. He gets into this. Pray for his safety. Michelle is doing well at home. Last doctors visit showed the baby is due on Jan 1st.
3) Aaron started his summer job at the restaurant that Jason works. Tomato Street. This is a praise.
4) This weekend, I go camping with Mary, Laura and Kayla. At Farragut they are having Adventure races in the state park. I will be running a half marathon on trails in the remote parts of the park and along the shoreline. This will be new for me and a challenge. Trail running is different than street. Lots of hills. Pray for my safety. I just want to finish.

More later......

Sing to the Lord a new song!

"Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His Salvation from day to day. Tell of His Glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the people." Psalm 96: 2-3

Aloha, I made it back from Hawaii last Saturday morning. Good to see the family. I missed them very much. Alway good to come back home. God protected me and the family. With it being Memorial Day weekend, we had planned a camping trip that afternoon, so off we went up to Farragut State Park (30 min. away). We met up with Nathan and Michelle in same campground. That night we got together for a cookout. Nathan and Michelle brought me a present to open. Nathan casually says that it is an early Father's Day present since he will be gone for next 3 weeks with military duty. Him and Michelle have a big smile on their face. I open the box and find a coffee mug! Oh, another coffee mug. BUT not just your ordinary coffee mug. Here are the pictures of the mug.

YES! MICHELLE IS PREGNANT!!!!!
We all are so excited. My first Grand child. I am going to be a GRANDPA. Did I tell you that I am excited. Another picture with Nathan and Michelle. Michelle is due in early January. Gee, another January birthday! We are definitely PRAISING the Lord for this wonderful news. A new dimension in the Vetsch Family.

I was with Mary, Laura and Kayla for the whole weekend. Jake and Hannah came up for Saturday night and spent the night. Sarah came up on Sunday and went hiking with us. We had the best time. A good way to kick off the summer season. We just love camping. Met up with good friends Tom and Sue as well. Good weather and good company.

His Grace and Peace to all. Blessings.......

Sorry for the inactivity!!

What with spring activities (gardening, 4H, swimming, etc), time just got away from me. I didn't realize it has been so long in communicating with you all. I am currently on my Reserve two weeks at Pacific Command (PACOM) at Camp Smith just above Pearl Harbor, HI. So I have some time to update you all on what is going on back home. Today is checkin day for a major exercise (joint command center activities) and I will be manning the Naval Operations Desk in the Joint Operations Command. I got in on Sunday to Honolulu and my luggage ending up going to San Diego. Whoa how did that happen? I never check my luggage claim sticker (usually with you initial boarding pass after checking in your luggage), but I will from now on. The boarding pass was correct with my name on it, but the claim sticker was for another guy who was also going to Seattle on my plane but he then went on to San Deigo while I went on to Honolulu. My luggage followed him!!!! So I have been without my stuff now for 24 hours, including my uniform and nice weather clothes. I checked in anyway this morning, in JEANS. 87 degrees over here. Can't wait for my luggage, if it makes it. Pray for safe arrival soon.
Prayer requests:
1) Leah has been over in Germany for last 8 days. Will be returning on 14th of May. She is visiting a family friend, Rebecca outside of Frankfurt. She is having a great time. Taking side trips to Switzerland, Amsterdam and Paris. Pray for safety there and for trip home on Thursday. She is learning some German. Leah will be coming back and probably start to move her belongings to Bend, OR. She put down an offer on a house (short sale home) which is very nice and fairly cheap, and I think she got it!!! There are several jobs she has lined up down there but no full time teaching jobs as of yet. She will substitute teach and work some other jobs in the mean time.
2) Mary will be staying with Jessica Spinnaza for the 2 weeks. Laura and Kayla will be staying with Jane Wilkey. Pray for health and pleasant stays for them. Especially Kayla. She cried the night before I left. So I will call her more often while I am away. The girls are taking Sheep livestock projects in 4-H and pet rabbit. So we are busy in that.
3) Jason is still doing a lunch ministry at Mary's public Middle School for the boys. He is totally being challenged in his faith and being blessed by it all. I am very proud of Jason for stretching his faith and growing in it. Aaron is growing in his faith too. He is very involved in the youth ministries at New Life.
4) Hannah has a practical examination this week as well as the final nursing exam. Pray for efficient studying and for clear thinking and answering during the test. I am so proud of Hannah for her hard work and dedication in the process. God has blessed her for her efforts!!! Praise to our Lord for his Faithfulness.
5) Sarah finishes up her nanny work in Spokane at the end of the month. Then she starts right up with Jeff and his three kids. Hannah works for Jeff right now but needs to finish up that work so she can start concentrating on Nursing jobs. Sarah will live back home here when that time comes. Praise for the new job for Sarah and a smooth transition.
6) Pray for a nanny to work for me for the first part of the summer. Hannah will eventually take over once she graduates and gets a job herself. Then she will figure out how much time she will be able to devote to being a nanny for me. But, I will need a nanny, so pray for the right one.

Better go. Just wanted to update you on a few things before I get back to work here. Thank you all for checking in on us. We love you.

"Be Strong and Courageous"

"Have I not commanded you? Be Strong and Courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

These were God's words to Joshua before Joshua was to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River into the promised land. Yet another promise from God to be with us wherever we go, wherever we are in life, whatever trial we are in or about to go into. He is Faithful. That promise carries me and the family everyday. He has been faithful to us this past year without Susan. We all gathered together for the one year anniversary without Susan. We watched some home videos, some picture tributes that Hannah had created, we laughed and cried. And it was good. We also got a special treat from Jim and Kim Washko (their business"Hands on Art Studio"), a wall hanging of the families "hands", including Susan's and her favorite verse, Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." See the picture below. What a wonderful gift, Kim! Thank you so so much. What great insight to start on this while Susan was alive. What a treasure. Also got flowers from Susan's sister Jeanne; Calla Lily (picture below). Thank you all for the gifts and prayers over the years. Also, I included some daffodils because I had put a bouquet of daffodils on Susan's grave. That night it got down to 22 degrees, then warmed up to 55 during the day, then 26 degrees the next night and back up to 55 degrees. That night the girls and I went to change out the daffodils thinking that the flowers were brown and dead, after the harsh cold. Surprise! They were as fresh looking as the daffodils back home inside. They are an amazing and hardy flower. They are one of Susan's favorites and they certainly reflect her life as well; beautiful, amazing and strong.

Calla Lily from Jeanne, nice!

Susan's favorite flower, Daffodils

Celebrated Hannah's birthday after we got back from Phoenix. Had a dessert pizza, instead of a cake. Pretty weird, but it was fun anyway. Hannah got a Pink Breast Cancer Stethoscope for her birthday, in honor of Susan, for her nursing.

And here is a photo at G&G's house, Jack and Mary Carol. Along with Rick and Cheryl. We had such a wonderful, memoriable time with everyone. Enjoyed the sun too. We came back to 4 inches of snow back in Idaho. But it has warmed up now into the 60's.

Close in view of the "Hands" art.
